THE KING OF SOUTHERN SPAIN... AND THE WHOLE BALLAD was my first novel for children, which was first published in 1999. It has now been republished in the third edition by the publisher Jensen / Dalgaard. Cover and vignettes by Maria Buchmann.
When, in the distant past, my boys, their father and I lived for six months in Málaga, I began to compose the story of the King of Southern Spain, Queen Diamante, Prince Safiro and the rascal couple The Wicked-lyne-me, his deadly wife Doña (who is crazy about snake porridge and making people really scared... then I'll say no more) and their son Niño. Later, when I published the robbery story as a book, my sons were very disappointed. Because they thought it was something that had happened in reality.
“As cruel as Grimm. Iselin C. Hermann makes her debut as an original children's book author with oaths, curses and language flowers in full bloom... Like Halfdan Rasmussen and Benny Andersen, Iselin C. Hermann engages in a funny and important form of tongue-in-cheek. ... A fairy tale that the children listen to with joyful disbelief, while the adults laugh their heads off." (Politiken)
